Our Mission
The Pittsburgh Community Improvement Association
(PCIA) is a neighborhood-based, community development corporation which operates in the Pittsburgh neighborhood within the
City of Atlanta. The organization was founded in 1999 by community residents and received its 501 (c) 3 status in 2002.
Our mission is to revitalize and redevelop the Pittsburgh community, giving particular emphasis to the neighborhood’s
current residents. Current efforts are focused on rebuilding a unique, historical, and diverse community that promotes
home ownership, economic and community development, public safety, education, recreation and community pride. A brief
history of PCIA’s community development highlights our commitment to improving the quality of life for residents. In
2000, PCIA developed the Pittsburgh Community Redevelopment Plan in conjunction with partnership organizations. This plan
developed a vision and identified specific goals for Pittsburgh as well as provided recommendations for its redevelopment.
In 2002, the plan was adopted by the Atlanta City Council. In the same year, the community was also designated by the
Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Weed & Seed as a combined site with a neighboring community, Mechanicsville
which allowed PCIA to leverage resources for continued development. In the spring of 2006, PCIA participated in a concentrated
community development effort, Blueprints for Successful Communities, an educational and technical assistance program of the
Georgia Conservancy housed at the Georgia Institute of Technology which further facilitated community-based planning for Pittsburgh.
PCIA is a 501(c)3 charitable organization.
