Since 1999 Pittsburgh Community Improvement Association (PCIA) a neighborhood-based community development corporation, has been a leading force in redeveloping Atlanta's historic Pittsburgh Community which was founded in 1883. Our mission is to revitalize and redevelop the Pittsburgh Community into a working family neighborhood given particular emphasis to the current residents. A brief history of PCIA's community development strategies highlights PCIA's commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.
In 2000, PCIA developed the Pittsburgh Community Redevelopment Plan in conjunction with partnership organizations.
In 2002, the plan was adopted by the Atlanta City Council.
In 2006, PCIA sponsored and participated in a concentrated community development effort, Blueprints for Successful Communities.
In 2008, PCIA responded to the foreclosures crisis by ramping up a series of innovative programs.
These historical milestones furthered PCIA's goal of achieving community revitalization without displacing the neighborhood's long-term residents.
